This issue will be looking at the Ego and sort of explains how it actually works. Read the Ego Manual for more. Plus, free inside, your very own death mask template by Ink and Mess. also Paper X asks “what kind of artist are you?”, with some flippantly hilarious results.”

Edinburgh Diary: Day 23, Artoscopic work.

So, this is a mock-up of what I had on display at Artoscopic (held yearly in St.Leonard’s tunnel, Innocent Railway, Edinburgh). The good news is I might actually be able to recover the lost photos from my memory card. That would be the best news ever as I have tons of pictures of other artists brilliant work.

Thank you to Sandy Christie, Malcy, Victoria Gray and another anonymous girl for helping me colour these beasties in at the nth hour. Artoscopic was ace and I’m always glad to take part in such projects.

Edinburgh Diary: Day 22, Je suis un idiot.

Last night I exhibited at the always excellent, always interesting ‘Artoscopic’ experiment, led by Sandy Christie. This morning I accidentally deleted nearly every single photo I took of all the artwork on display last night. What a fool. Hopefully I’ll be able to gather together some photos from Sandy and the other exhibitors but this idiot accident is really quite inconvenient. Anyway, I’ll restage the work I exhibited today and put some photos up on here tomorrow. This is all that remains from the photos I took:

Sandy recorded the Artoscopic II last year:

Sandy recorded this years event too – hopefully he’ll get that up quite soon. Highlights of the night included an art performance of a pea reciting P words, smoke signals (luckily the police didn’t show this year) and poet Graham reciting some wonderful, visceral poetry about the world and all that’s in it – he had some wise words and told me never to give up even if I’m being ground down. Sound advice, Celia Mitchell, owner of Ripping Yarns also wrote me the same wise words in a wonderfully illustrated old Socialist/Marxist Christmas card…”Never give up, ever.” I should upload the card, it really is rather special. Anyway, digressing.

Favourite pieces exhibited last night were an oil painting of a butcher man wearing a rather phallic plague doctor mask, a tiny clay standing upside down man on a thin pillar, Sandy’s mental multicolour discs and a collection of drawings featuring women with nippy little teeth, all in excruciating situations like a dinner party (with a carved open woman as the meat dish), an anatomical heart with a gingerbread man cookie cutter sat atop and a woeful looking disco scene.

Off to Forest Café again today to try and get this mural finished. Here’s a picture of me and my work. Not so keen on the camera unless I am wearing a mask…actual, make-up or otherwise.

Artoscopic 2

This Friday (22nd August) Ink & Mess will be taking part in the very exciting Artoscopic experiment in Edinburgh.

To see what pitch-black creepy plans I have in store come to St. Leonard’s railway tunnel (The Innocent Railway) at 7pm on Friday. The show is on the road (literally, in the tunnel) from 7-9pm.

Be warned, I will be despatching Ink & Mess fiends for the occasion, and these creatures bite!

Read the history of Innocent Railway Tunnel here.
