Contemporary painter and digital artist navigating themes of 'Pastoral Occultism' and 'Uncanny Enchantments'.
'Heretic' is a new body of work - oil paintings - focused on heresy, accused 'witches', saints and martyrs, from Foxe to Folklore. It is an investigation into the pathologization of female expression of emotion, appearance and behaviour, and the rejection of the 'outsider'.
'Suburban English Magick' is an ongoing project, exploring the habits, superstitions and behaviours of life in modern, semi-rural England. I employ a multi-disciplinary approach, using found images, film, poetry, prose, field recordings as well as original paintings and print to produce narrative content. All the 'base material' is then turned into digital art, and archived online.
My practice is informed and inspired by looking to the past to see into the future: I search for answers by collecting information, disseminating, making sense and order. Of particular interest is human behaviour, loss and letting go, sense of self, and, of place.
Through my work I invite the viewer in to a world they might already recognise, but subconsciously hide from.
